GetZoe.com Month 53 June/July 2003

With summer in high gear, my schedule is packed with
action. Here I am heading to swim lessons after school.
But all this activity makes me a little grumpy. Check
out the pained look on my face, as Mr Mellow watches on.
No, these aren't my swim lessons--just a mini-pool for
the backyard. Good think I have my floatable suit on!!
"So dad, what will happen if I get on top of this patio
chair and actually dive into the pool head first?"
In case you're wondering, yes, I not only insisted on
wearing the goggles, they just had to be upside down.
Any time is a good time to stop and do
some random Lakers cheerleading.
This month, we celebrated Father's Day
and here's some special work on the wall.
Here's mom and Bigs visiting with some of my teachers
and classmates at the jam-packed open house.
At the end of the school year, we have an open house and
school play to bid farewell to all the graduating kids.
Our class song was "Take Me Out To The Ballgame", so
Harrison wanted to wear baseball (OK, gardening) gloves.
Last year I got stage fright and this year I
got hives but I gutted it out and performed.
After the open house, the action moved out onto the back
lawn, for the show to begin. Big Boy gets in a last chug.
It's quite the swank affair, complete with a sound system,
refreshments and flying doves when the kids graduate.
That's me performing in the grand finale. To my left is
my good friend Kiki--she's a real crack-up.
"Dad, if you're going to insist that I be an Angels fan,
the least you can do is get me a fitted hat, pal."
After the show, we went to Wahoo's with the Toole's and
Rothbergs for some hard core bean burrito eating.
Here I am back in the pool on another hot Saturday
afternoon. It's been a really hot summer this year.
Aaaaah that feels good. Whoops, I must have forgotten
my floater suit--lucky I didn't drop to the bottom.
Whenever I get near the old mini-pool, Big Boy is just a
couple of steps behind, begging to get in.
Here I am hanging with Cade and Josh at the Kahr's new
luxury pad. We settled in to catch a little Elmo action.
Then it was off to the ice cream shop for a couple of
scoops of my new favorite flavor--chocolate.
I got to bring Syd to the mall one day and
we both got the same white shoes.
I don't know which I like better--the ice
cream itself or the mess I get to make.
And apparently my buddy Syd feels exactly
the same way. Time to clean up, mom.
Well, how's that for some
serious action? Man, if this
keeps up, I'm going to be
exhausted by the end of this
summer. Stayed tuned to see if
I survive. See you again soon.

And here I am all decked out with my
cousin Nhan and his new bride, Diane.
Since I'm such a cute little sucker, I get to be the flower
girl in weddings. Here I am getting my hair all prepped.
I really like the whole wedding deal and even take part in
all the traditions. If I could only catch that bouquet!!
Later at the reception, I gave my daddy a great big hug to
let him know he'll always be my special dude.
Zobo's Quote of the Month Usually I reserve this spot for some funny little stand-alone comment that Zoe's has made during the month--but she's been a little grumpy lately, so nothing comes to mind. Instead, I thought I'd use this month to share the kind of stuff she literally says every day. Seriously, I mean EVERY day. Here's a laundry list of some standard Zoe comments, shedding light on the more demanding side of our little princess: Every morning: "I want donuts" Every Tuesday, right after she's said goodbye to Mom: "I didn't get to say goodbye" Every night: "Let's play the color game" Every dinner, when Ryan is trying to eat her food: "Bigggggggs...Aaaaaaaaaaah!" When she has Daddy on the phone: "Daddy, you're a macoco" (I have no idea what that means)
