Washington DC Trip
July 2019
Craig took Ryan back to DC for a scholastic camp at Georgetown. DC at night is pretty awesome.
We started our day be cruising past a few choice monuments.
There are presidential portraits all over. Here's the famous JFK painting.
The view from inside looking out at the Washington Monument.
We were there the day after
Trump made his
impeachable call to the
Ukraine. Check out the 2pm
meeting, which occurred
while we were there touring
the White House--that is
Trump & Pompeo trying to
cover their tracks. And we
were only about 100 feet
from those two morons.
That afternoon, we were lucky enough to get White House tour tix from our Rep, Harley Rouda.
This flag was at D-Day, flying on a landing craft that dropped off soldiers on Omaha Beach.
At the Smithsonian, the first exhibit was Gene Krupa's drum. RVM around?
The actual broken-in filing cabinet from the Watergate break in.
The top hat Lincoln had with him the night he was assassinated.
The office for The Speaker of the House has a prominent location.
We saw the Dodgers take on the Nationals, who went on to win the World Series later that year.
After a couple of days of museums & memorials it was time for some baseball and burgers.
The White House is much smaller than you imagine--definitely a cool tour.
Each state gets to feature two statues that are scattered around the building.
Some museums have replica uniforms, The Smithsonian has Washington's.
A revolutionary war drum used to inspire the troops to glory.
The locals definitely don't like the ass in the White House. Here's one who clearly isn't a Trump fan.
Pulled pork, baby backs, fries, mac 'n cheese and Texas toast. Yum.
For dinner that night we hit a popular BBQ joint for some delicious smoked treats.
The mangled antenna
from the top of one of the
Trade Towers with copies
of newspaper reporting on
9/11 from around the
world.
We took a quick look at Georgetown to figure out where to go for camp.
Turn around and you get MLK's view for his "I have a dream" speech.
An amazing sculpture to see up close--the Lincoln Memorial.
DC is like the big cities in Europe, you turn a corner and there's something big. The Watergate Hotel.
The Vietnam War Memorial by the wall of names of those killed.
One of the newer memorials is the WWII Memorial.
The art inside the Capital dome is pretty trippy--it's like a fever dream of the founding fathers.
The next day we headed over to the Capital for another very cool tour.
The Supreme Court when our gal RBG was still hanging on by a thread.
Another gem is the Spy Museum--here's the flag of the poor saps who were part of the Bay of Pigs.
One room is dedicated to Thomas Jefferson's personal library. That dude did a lot of reading.
The Library of Congress is next to the Capital and worth a visit.
Here is the Unibomber's actual cabin which was taken apart and rebuilt for public display.
Cell phones from the Trade Center on 9/11.
The Newseum is another amazing museum. Here's part of the Berlin Wall.
The 2nd paragraph is about a Y&R executive will Craig was at Y&R. He got briefed by the FBI.
On Sunday we hit Founding Farmers for brunch courtesy of Papa Leo. Tasty stuff.
Here's the ultimate ride--one of just two Aston Martin's built for Bond to drive in Goldfinger in 1964.
This museum is intense and this display is probably the saddest part. A very solemn experience.
One of the train cars used to bring Jews to concentration camps throughout Europe.
Free for the night, Craig of course found a place to get some pizza.
Time to drop off the dude at G-Town for his data analytics camp.
It's always kind of strange to drop your kid off at college...even if this one was just for a week.
After Trump's motorcade drove by his cab, Craig hit the Holocaust Museum.
