Maui-Oahu Trip
Zoe waiting for everyone to get ready to hit the pool.
DAY ONE
The cascading waterfall pools at the Ritz make for a very mellow scene.
The pool bar pina coladas were really off the hook.
That is until the sugar-fueled Jacobin kids hit the pool and start giggling.
Nothing says Hawaiian fun like a boys vs girls shuffleboard tournament.
Bigs & Zobo take a short cut to Fleming Beach.
It's like seeing an old friend when we see the tiki's at Mama's Fish House.
The famished Jackos waiting for dinner outside Mama's Fish House.
If you're ever in Maui, Mama's Fish House is a must.  Classic Hawaiian.
Craig calls Grandma Cookie to let her know that everything is going well.
Lunch at  Hula Grill and some heavy metal ukulele.
We'd never noticed all the wild cats that live near Big Beach before.
While the rest of the Jackos relax, Dad takes a vicious beating in the water.
For whatever reason, the kids go wild on the sand castle thing at Big Beach.
"Put this croissant to your ear and you can pastry chefs cursing in French."
Before deciding the roll the dice by leaving the airport we had a bite to eat.
Then we decided to take a cab to see Pearl Harbor.  Here's a fired torpedo.
That's the USS Missouri, the site where the Japanese surrendered WWII.
We begged our way into an early tour and got on a boat to the memorial.
The giant US flag that flies over the memorial is the only noise you hear.
Zoe had a great dinner and topped it off with a virgin pina colada.
Ryan was pretty excited to have a very intricate dragon tat for all of 1 hour.
The brave Jacko youth hide from a hungry bird no bigger than a peanut.
This lonely tree stood along the path from the hotel down to Fleming Beach.
Bigs shows off what's left of his henna tat at the top of Kapalua Bay Beach.
"Look at me Dad, I'm a beautiful mermaid who's just happy to be here!!"
"Oh my god, like did you just all the sand that Dad just ate?  WORD!!"
At Lappert's, be cliché and get Macadamia Nut.
My favorite mall in the world--The Shops at Wailea...just cuz it is where it is.
This is probably what I look like while daydreaming about Wailea at work.
OK, so much for eating healthy on this trip.  Lappert's for ice cream again.
Tractors clear the boulder slide that narrowly missed our passing car.
The USS Arizona, along with over a thousand sailors, lies below the water.
Zoe takes a moment to think about the ship wreckage in front of her.
Bigs and Zoe in front of the actual anchor from the doomed USS Arizona.
We raced back to the airport only to accept a later flight.  Waikiki, baby!!
After shopping for clothes (ours went to LA), it was time to celebrate!!
Honolulu is a pretty cool looking city--very Asian looking architecture.
Our view from the balcony--full moon and Waikiki.
After some Easter  brunch, we hit the gorgeous Hanauma Bay to snorkel.
Bigs collected rocks and shells to form a castle.
From up top, you can see the reef formation that offers amazing snorkeling.
Bigs & Zoe mug for the cameras one last time before the trip home.
Another of the countless string of beautiful sunsets from the condo lanai.
Zoe & Ryan toss the ball around on the pool grounds near scared guests.
The snorkeling near the condos isn't bad at all.  Cool little striped puffer fish.
Zoe and I have a whole underwater hand signal language while snorkeling.
2007 water = molten lava.  2008 water = crab-filled abyss.  2009 is here!!
That's right--the little man is officially not only in the water, he's riding it.
"Hey look, a beached kayak--let's go sit on the end and act like fools!!"
After dinner, the kiddies didn't know their own bar-bending strength.
Although we got in late the night before, our official "day one" didn't kick off until the next morning, when we woke up at the Ritz
in Kapalua.  We had a great breakfast, a full day of pool and beach action and then dinner at Mama's.  A great start to the trip.
Some of the colorful plants that surround the pool at the Ritz in Kapalua.
DAY four
After some mild weather, we were fired up to have the sun out all day for our first full day at the condo in Wailea.   We did it
all--swimming in the pool, boogie boarding/snorkeling at the beach and then we closed things out a big BBQ on the lanai.
DAY three
With the jet lag finally wearing off, it was time a bit more adventure before checking into the condo in Wailea.  Snorkeling in
Kapalua Bay, followed by some serious boogie boarding at Big Beach.  Oh and a little Lappert's Ice Cream to cap things off.
DAY two
After a day scoping out the grounds of the hotel, we ventured out to Kaanapali Beach to do some shopping and hit a new beach.
Then we came back to the hotel to chill out and order room service before calling it a night.  Tomorrow we're off to Wailea!!
DAY seven
Our 7th day of the trip marked our official end of great weather on Maui. But that didn't stop us from having a good time because
we were able to check out the Kae Lani, which is where Grandma Cookie & Alex were staying.  Two words: Water Slide!!
DAY six
With the rest of our trip pretty booked up with activities with Cookie and Alex, Craig talked everyone into yet another jaunt down
to Big Beach for another round of big waves, fish tacos and shave ice.  And then finally it was time for a few visitors to arrive.
DAY five
With the weather shaping up to be a bit dicey, we decided early in the day to cut our pool time off and head to Hana to see how
far we could get before dinner.  Along the way we saw some great things, along with one very scary thing.  Nine lives, baby!
DAY ten
How sweet it is to think you're trip to Hawaii is over, only to have American Airlines send you to Waikiki Beach for two night,
along with $2,400 in flight vouchers for your next trip to Hawaii--and all to set the stage for the best Easter Sunday ever?!?!
DAY nine
Our final day in Maui was short one, as we had a 9am flight to Honolulu to catch our plane back to LA.  But upon arrival in
Honolulu, we discovered our next flight was delayed (bummer) but we had time quickly do something in Honolulu (yipee).
DAY eight
Our last day on Maui started with Alex and Craig paddling out to sea and ended with a snicker doodle (that's code for a peanut
allergy alert for Bigs).  But luckily the snicker doodle was a mild one and we all had a few laughs and more Lappert's Ice Cream.
OK, so this must be what all the signs are about.
Nothing beats seeing a sign like this while it's raining in a rain forest.
Just beyond the sign was a hidden trail through a very cool bamboo forest.
Crossing this board was a lot scarier than it appears.  Zoe made it over.
Only Craig & Zoe made it to this point but the trail was pretty flooded out.
We spent a little time at the Hana Garden of Eden where met this show-off.
Along the road to Hana are some incredible views of the east side of Maui.
Standard Jacko fare--pina colada (Zoe), lemon-lime (Ry), cherry (Craig).
At the halfway point, you'll find "Halfway to Hana" and some shave ice.
But alas, it lifts him into the air, setting him up for yet another big crash.
Back at the condo, the kids want to hit the pool before Grandma arrives.
The small tile that greets shoe-wearing  visitors outside of the condo.
The kids couldn't stand waiting inside for Cookie & Alex to arrive.
Taco dinner that night down at the pool with Cookie and Al was very tasty.
The pinkest sunset I think I have ever seen.  It was spectacular.
Somehow I don't think our Alamo piece of crap would have saved us here.
After a narrow brush with the big man, a pit stop to hunt for rainbows.
Enjoying some lattes inside Anthony's--Laird Hamilton's espresso hangout.
Bigs was getting pretty brave with the water on this visit to Big Beach.
The sand on Big Beach is particularly pack-able for Zoe's moat-building.
Craig launches into a wave at what looks like exactly the right moment.
And in a split second, he comes crashing in for a mouthful of sand.
This truck parked at Big Beach fires up the very best fish tacos ever.
A glutton for pain, he pulls back his board to try to snag the next wave.
The locals in this area don't make it easy to find things.  Nice entrance!
View of the pool area at the center of the Fairmont Kae Lani in Wailea.
Ryan and Alex take ukulele lessons and sing Broadway show tunes.
"Look out below, people--I'm coming through with my eyes closed."
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawwww!
"Hey Mom, check it out--I'm flying through this water slide like a total stud!"
Oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooohh!
"Oh god, maybe I'm too old for this.  Sweet niblets--this could be it for me!"
Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeoooooooooooooww!
Dad and the young Jacko youth peek through to see what Mom is up to.
I doubt that the people in the lounge above the slide liked all the screaming.
Just in case I forgot to mention it, Zoe just loves being in the pool.
Finally we were able to visit the famed Sushi Paradise in Kihei.  Good stuff.
Alex and Craig paddle their surfboards out from just off the beach.
Craig gets upright and starts looking out for large, man-eating sharks.
Stacks of kayaks wait for the day's action to kick in at the Kae Lani's beach.
Some kid went "caddyshack" in pool and left the little man feeling very sad.
A golf course and Big Beach hill lie behind Cookie at SeaWatch Restaurant.
The suddenly very tanned Jacobins get together for a family shot at dinner.
The lovely Zoe Jacobin with s few homemade braids in her hair.
Mom and Bigs feeling good (before the chef made his fries in nut oil, that is).
