Main Events Wailea 2008 Zobo-Style

Day 1
Day 2
What do you have when you combine
open space at Cookie's Condo, a Dad
with an inexplicable amount of free
time, a pile of United miles and one cool
chiquita? Why you have Wailea
Zobo-Style, of course. Let's do this,
people.
With the time zone change, we always get an early start those first
few days. We were even in the water before the Molokini boats.
Here I am before touching the water. I can't believe we're back in
Maui after just three months. Thanks, Gramma Cookie & Big Al!!
Time to ride a few tasty waves before lunch. The water was pretty
calm in the morning but really got big and choppy in the afternoon.
I like looking for little fish and (cover your
eyes, Bigs) crabs in the lava tide pools.
The old guy took me for lunch down the beach at the Marriott. We
ended up with a pretty cool table on a lanai overlooking the pool.
Look mom, I'm having a ceasar salad and a refreshing glass of fruit
juice, to be followed by pile of vitamins and a 2-hour spin class!!
Dad let me illegally sneak in the Marriott pool for a quick dip before
we walked back to our beach. I was hot so it felt really great.
We've walked down this path about 10 times over the past few years
but this is the first time Dad noticed the crazy roots on this tree.
OK, after all those vitamins
and salad, Dad forced me to
have ice cream to make
sure I was eating a balanced
diet. And then we went
shopping at Roxy &
Billabong. I love this life!!
Day 3
Instead of hitting the water right away, we spent a little time at the
pool. I wanted to test out what it would be like to get a tan in flippers.
Not everyone at the pool was as excited about my flipper-enduced
splashes as I was. Aaaaah, who cares--those fools were from Texas.
Dad and I had a great time
making this really cool castle
with a jacuzzi. And then this
freaky little dude fell in love
with me and wouldn't leave us
alone. Aye Chihuahua!!
I brought a fancy dress, so Dad took me to a fancy dinner at SeaWatch.
It was great, except for the little island birds that wanted my food.
Aren't we just the cutest little couple? Hey
look, that's Molokini island in the background.
Day 4
We knew our day was going to be memorable when we spotted this
crane catching a ride on a black angus on the road to Lahaina.
Here I am scouting around for insane people yelling bad things about
the state of our country under the giant banyon tree in Lahaina.
We boarded a Whale Foundation boat and headed out in search of
dolphins off the coast of Lanai. That island has some cool rocks.
Part of it looks like So-Cal--dry and lots of scrub brush. And then
you come upon all this steep cliffs, like parts of island fell off.
This was my boat buddy, Annika, who was very nice. She was here with her family from Los Gatos.
It didn't take long for us to spot our first school of dolphins. I got
really excited when this spotted dauphin cruised right up next to me.
They stick together in really large pods to protect each other while
they play in the water. There were probably 50 dolphins in this pod.
There are so fast and they love jumping out of the water to catch air.
Dad had a hard time shooting these guys because they move so fast.
Here's on with his dorsal fin sticking out. They kind of looked fake.
Now that's a cool shot. If you look really close you can see the spots.
Check out The nuts on the edge of this cliff.
On The way back, we picked up the stranded passengers on this boat.
I could really get used to the boating life--I just love ocean animals.
On the way back we found about 100 spinner dolphins together.
After a long morning of dolphin hunting on the great blue Pacific, it
was time to re-charge with some good old Italian pasta from BJ's.
OK, this sure beats the view of Jamboree at The BJ's Pizzeria in
Tustin. There were tons of good surfers just behind that tree.
Each day so far, Dad and I have slipped in a
game of shuffleboard. I'm getting pretty good.
Dad taught me how to keep the cue on the disc and that's made all
the difference. Although I did manage crack my cue guide in half!!
Day 5
On our fifth day, we hit Big Beach a bit later in the morning. This
place has a big stretch of sand and some monster boogie board waves.
They start out looking pretty innocent and then things quickly spiral
out of control. At this point, you need to decide if you're in or out.
Clearly this dude wanted out, as he makes a last ditch effort to toss
his board over this 15-footer, while he valiantly dives underneath it.
The board almost makes it (sadly it came all the way back to shore)
and the dude (who was a heavily-muscled Hawaiian) started all over.
I'll tell ya what, pops, while you try to get yourself killed out there, I
think I'll just guard your camera bag and eat some rainbow shave ice.
I couldn't go near the waves at Big Beach, so I was thrilled when it
started pouring and we had to head north to find some sunshine.
We didn't get too far before Dad pulled over to
grab some tasty roadside swordfish tacos.
The nice lady at the BBQ shack couldn't stop talking about how pretty
I was (the locals think I'm Hawaiian). Oh, and the fish tacos rocked.
It took a while, along with some long-distance mapquest help from Big Al, but we finally
found Kapalua Bay, plenty of sun and some of the best snorkeling on the island.
Snorkeling is something I love...once its finished. Before and during
the event, I'm generally terrified. So we continued on to Kaanapali.
I had a nice time doing my handy-work in the sand until The waves
kept treating my masterpieces like they were on an etch-a-sketch.
To close out the evening, the old man fired up some hot dogs on the
grill while the sun set in a blazing sea of orange over the horizon.
After dinner we visited our 4th beach of the day by hitting the tide
pools at Wailea and then watching a luau wedding near our condo.
Day 6
One of the many birds that wake us up verrrrrrrrrry early each day.
Here's "Pina", the cat that lives between the Marriott and The Grand.
Getting a henna tat at The Grand Wailea before we went to a luau.
This is my pool friend, Lauren, who taught me "Shark & Guppies".
That night, we hit The Prince Luau and learned some cool stuff.
Dad, will you please take this off of me?!?!
Now that's what I call an ocean of blue Hawaiians, whatever they are.
If there's ever a chance for me to get on stage and dance, I'm in!!
The hula girls at this show actually looked a little Hawaiian for once.
This big dude was probably the best tatted-up, fire-breather I know.
Day 7
Well, I guess it's time to say good
bye and head home. But that just
means it's time for my favorite
part--riding the people movers at
the airport. Aloha everyone!!
Before going to The airport, I did some elevator dancing at The Grand.
And after a great breakfast, I wished for another return to Wailea.
